In 1980 Tymon Flazsa was a man to be feared. Head of the Flazsa Crime Family, he was tough and fearless; a result of a tragic childhood during which he learnt that the only person you could trust was yourself and success only came when you took it.
He was born in Poland in the 1930s and both his parents died during the Struggle for Poland, leaving him and his younger brother alone and on the streets at the beginning of WW2. The streets taught him how to be tough, how to steal and fight and this resulted in other street kids looking up to him and he formed his own gang who terrorised the poorest streets of war-stricken Warsaw. After the war, Tymon, now a strong young man continued to rule the streets until the beginning of the Cold War. The Soviets raided the city, and his gang were largely shot or sent to the Gulags but somehow Tymon survived and escaped toward the Port.
He stowed away on an American CargoShip, and he arrived in New York, seasick, starving and determined to survive and make a new life for himself in America. He spoke no English and was back to being homeless. He spent many weeks wandering the streets of the city, trying to find paid work labouring or anything, but times were tough, and no-one wanted to employ a man who spoke no English. Americans thought he might be a German and refused to have anything to with him. During the increasingly cold winter he resorted to sleeping in the doorways of a restaurant and stealing from kitchens and scavenging the bins. One particularly cold night he spotted a well-dressed older man leaving the restaurant. As he walked towards his car, the man suddenly slipped and fell heavily onto the sidewalk. Tymon decided to help the man, hoping for a tip as a thank you and he offered to help him get up and over to his car. The man noticed how cold and thin Tymon was and offered to buy him a meal. Tymon agreed and this was the start of a great friendship. Little did he know that day, that this was also the start of his fall back into crime – the man was no other than Antonio Montana, a powerful Crime head. Antonio must have seen something in Tymon and decided to welcome him into his home, like a forgotten son. He learnt English and he learnt how crime works in New York City.
