Organization Backstory (Min. of 150+ Words): Murder Inc. is an organized crime group founded in 1929 that acted as the enforcement arm of the Italian American Commission. The group was founded under Louis “Lepke'' Buchalter and Benjamin “Bugsy” Seigel. Murder Inc. or Murder Incorporated worked for a variety of organized crime groups such as, but most notably, The Luciano Crime Family. now known as The Genovese Crime Family. Murder Inc. Prospered for over 20 years, taking and completing over 500 to 1000 contact killings from the Italian - American Commission. The downfall of the organization started with the murder of Dutch Schultz, who in late 1935 was about to carry out an unsanctioned hit on Special Prosecutor Thomas E. Dewey, who was about to bring Schultz down for tax evasion. Schultz and his associates were shot outside the Palace Chophouse in Newark, New Jersey by two Murder Inc. contractors. This event would lead to a number of other murders in an attempt to cover up the Dutch Schultz murder. These secondary murders would lead to multiple convictions and even executions of some of the most notorious Murder Inc “contractors”, most notably Loius “Lepke” Buchalter, who got the electric chair in Sing Sing prison on March 4, 1944 for First Degree Murder.
After Lepke was executed, Murder Inc’s contract killings slowed to a near halt with one contract every 2 months. Eventually, the group was forced to disband until 1970, when it was reformed under a new boss, Carlo Gambino, boss of the Gambino Crime Family. He put Roberto Belecante as the head of Murder Inc. Roberto Belecante was one of Carlo Gambino’s best hitmen, or how he called them, house painters. When Roberto Belecante was put as head of Murder Incorporated, he picked Giuseppe del Romani to act as his number two, or his Underboss. Once Murder Inc. got up on their feet in 1971 and established their presence and showcased their skills, contracts started to roll in from around the state of New York. Roberto Belecante knew he had done a good job reorganizing Murder Incorporated. Under him, contracts from out of state started to roll in by the dozen in states like Ohio, New Jersey, Pennsylvania. There were even a few contracts from Canada. Murder Inc. had since regained its feared status that it once had back in the ’20s and ’30s. Roberto Belecante was very proud of his achievements and decided to have a bit of a celebration and take Giuseppe and one of his best Captains, “Lucky”, out for a nice dinner at one of the most esteemed restaurants in the Manhattan area. While at this dinner, they talked about the future, and it was at this meeting that Roberto Belecante revealed to Giussepe and Lucky that he had lung cancer and didn't have much time left to live. Giuseppe was quite distraught that one of his greatest role models was in such a bad state. In the months following, Roberto’s condition worsened. In late 1973, Roberto Belecante passed away in his Upstate New York Mansion from Stage four lung cancer. When Roberto died, he left Giussepe in charge of Murder Inc. Giussepe’s first act as boss was to move HeadQuarters out of that godforsaken candy store he always hated. He instead opened a restaurant called “Quattro Formaggi''. His goal was to launder the dirty money from the contracts through the restaurant without the feds raising an eye. Giussepe was a very lowkey boss; he didn't wear too much jewelry, didn't wear a fancy suit, just a trench coat with a suit under it. Now, this was one of his greatest decisions when in late 1976, an unknown hitman fired 15 shots from a 1911 into a car. These shots hit Silvano Masciarelli, a close associate and made man within Murder Incorporated, who was mistaken for Giussepe. Luckily, only 2 bullets hit Silvano and he made a full recovery. With this failed assassination attempt. Giussepe went back to his home in Venice Italy.
Giussepe returned 2 months later when he found out Boss Carlo Gambino had passed away from natural causes. When Giuseppe returned stateside, he went to speak with the new Boss, Paul Castellano. When they spoke, Paul had little positive to say to Giussepe about Murder Inc.
Most things said at the meeting between the two were negative, with Paul saying he would bring too much heat to the two organizations. Business continued as usual for 9 years with contracts following in as usual. But in late 1985, he was contacted by John Gotti, who placed a hit on Paul Castellano. Two days later on December 16, 1985, Pual Castellano was shot multiple times in the head and neck area while exiting his car for a nice dinner. After these actions, Giussepe and his associates would flee to Northern Italy where they would stay for 1 month waiting for the fallout of the murder of Paul Castellano to pass over. When they returned to New York in January 1985 nothing was really the same.
Now the past 2 paragraphs are alternate timelines to what happened to the real Murder Inc. as the real Murder Inc. seized to exist after Albert Anastasia was murdered in 1957 by Carlo Gambino in a successful coup d'etat.
