Yeah, not the biggest fan of this new feature. If I got pulled over by a cop IRL for like let's say speeding he wouldn't remember me or recognize me on a future offense.
I agree yes it does fit for rp purposes but it’s so easy to abuse stuff and just very annoying plus irl a cop would probably forget your face if you only been arrested once for something minor especially in a big city
No. It's not abusable whatsoever. It adds a much needed incentive for you to be much more careful as a criminal in not wanting people to know your identity - which you should be anyway. Very simply, don't get arrested or put into a situation where somebody can view your ID.
In the same way that someone who takes a 10 year plea is in jail for 10 minutes, the server cannot mirror reality one-to-one. Obviously the Officers will not remember EVERY single face they encounter throughout their tenure but a gun smuggler they put away for 30 years will:
A) Probably be a face they remember
B) Not be out of jail in 30 minutes.
Regardless this is a Garry's mod server and allowing people to operate with impunity, giving them a level of anonymity to act reckless without long term consequences is silly to say the least. You're actively commiting crimes and making hard cash, you're shooting guns and causing waves in normal society and before the F3 change there was no real long term consequences for your actions.
No longer can you start a car chase over and over to bait cops without them knowing it's you, or running around creating false pretenses without possibly being recognized.
This obviously extends PAST cops too as mentioned. If you frequent a bar or club and get ID'ed security or staff would eventually recognize you. A big time mobster doing deals and shaking hands, maintaining a public image, their name and face gets around. No longer can someone enter a club, shoot it up and return a day later to repeat the action, there was no long term consequence for people who are so used to hiding behind a keyboard. We can't emulate the true nature of identity; but there's now some aspect of actually being your character. At least in a named sense.
Now with F3s being more liberally distributed there's actual continuity with some RPs and an essence and feel of progress as you interact with people throughout your character's arc and recognize individuals.
The change was both needed and impactful. Annoying when a top Mob guy would refuse to give their F3 to anyone for any reason and simply exist as a person in theory, untraceable and unrecognizable.
