I had a minge get mad at me and try to kill me with the hammer he swung and hit me like 5 times before I pulled out my gun missed a couple shots and then I killed him after dumping a mag on him honestly if anything the hammers the weakest melee in the game in my opinion

Realism.
If you get hit with a hammer irl your head will cave in and you will have heavy trauma.
You dying or at least being unconscious is totally realistic.
Also a ballistic vest doesn't protect your head.
