I understand your viewpoint and I didn't want to do this personally but I have a job to hold. However, why didn't you destroy it or give it to the evidence npc.

Because, if he did not want it, you might as well get some use out of it to someone. The evidence NPC does not take it, and if I would've destroyed it, I would've been killed either way for destroying a Cartels property.
