For context, this guys' Character A ratted on a faction. He then created or switched to Character B to inform that faction of the rat. (himself)
It does not effect only yourself in that situation, ratting on yourself in-character leads to a chain of events in which involves that faction doing potentially dangerous things in order to rectify it, which they wouldn't have done without that information. You forced this potential chain of events by using Out-Of-Character Information. Having already been in trouble for Metagaming, I would think you would be more familiar and not doing something so silly.
