The point of the cooldown is to limit the amount of money you can make in a specific time period. It's intentional to make you go back to the NPC each time. Having it be automated would take away that time in between.
Unrelated to your suggestion but reminded me of the idea of a timer for how long a shipment has to be delivered. Will implement this with the re-made system whenever it gets done.
