Aldo Trapani immigrated from Trapani, Sicily to Brooklyn, New York in 1928 at the age of 18. Unable to find steady employment, Trapani resorted to alternative methods. For the next two years Trapani would join and take part in the criminal activities of various Italian and Jewish street gangs. Trapani eventually would become connected within organised crime through the Castellammarese War of 1930. Approached by a soldier of the Masseria Crime Family, Trapani would be employed for the duration of the war as an unofficial enforcer. By the end of the mob war, as a result of the deaths of Joe Masseria and Salvatore Maranzano, Trapani's connections with the once Masseria crime family were cut off; Trapani disagreeable with the new leadership. In contestation, Trapani decided he would create his own crew known as the "Bedford Crew." Members of the Bedford Crew consisting of hoodlums and former associates of Trapani from the streets of Brooklyn.1935-1943: Partnership
In 1935 Trapani's crew would be contacted by Murder, Inc, offering association of his crew within the organisation due to his prestige within the Castellammarese War. Trapani would agree to this offer and by 1940 would become a verified member of Murder, Inc. Although, by 1941 Murder, Inc would fall into dissolution due to its exposition to law enforcement by a former member of the group. Trapani's crew within Murder, Inc would go on the lamb from 1941-1942; Trapani's crew able to effectively escape the long arm of the law. Upon returning to New York Trapani decisively new it was time for a change of pace. By 1943 Trapani's original Bedford Crew along with his section of new associates made within Murder, Inc new it was time for them to create their own organisation, the Trapani Crime Family.1944-1984: Independence
Upon the formation of the Trapani Crime Family in 1943, the next few decades would test its leadership. Primarily focused in drug trafficking and the heroin racket the Trapanis would thrive in New York City. Although, unrecognised by the Commission as a family, the Trapanis had an understanding to pay tribute in order to remain operational in New York City. Although by the mid-1970s, upon a disagreement with one of the heads of the Five Families, the Trapanis would come into conflict. This would result the in the deaths several made men at the hands of the Commission, although by 1980 this vendetta would come to a peace. As a result of widely enforced RICO Act during the early 1980s the Trapanis were given independence by the Commission, although unrecognised as a family.1985: Evolution
The Trapanis stand to make an impact in New York City, although having its membership downsized at the cost of independence. The discriminate action by the federal government to take down the Five Families leaves the Trapanis in a spot overlooked and ready to seize power in New York City. Primarily focused in drug trafficking and the heroin racket since the 1940s, the Trapanis setup a law firm to conceal its activities in 1985.
