Organization Backstory (Min. of 250+ Words & any images): The Irish Republic Petroleum Corporation was started by a man named Sean O’Connell in the early 1960s. This was the IRA’s answer to constant oil, fuel, and logistics during the Irish Civil War. After the war was over, the Irish Republic Petroleum Corporation continued to thrive and O’Connell began to build business relationships abroad. One evening O’Connell received a phone call from one of his American partners with one quite intriguing opportunity. That opportunity was to bring Irish Republic Petroleum Corporation to the city of New York to help revive its defunct oil industry. O’Connell immediately knew that he needed to find a business partner from his homeland to help him make this possible. He knew just the person to call. His old partner that represented the IRA during the Civil War, Calum O’Duggan. Calum had already had experience in branching out to the city of New York with a couple of former IRA buddies and was thriving quite well. On the evening of December 4, 1986, O’Connell made a phone call to O’Duggan to ask him for his assistance in getting the Irish Republic Petroleum Corporation into the New York market. O’Duggan, without question, immediately accepted the invitation to become partners and help his old lad out. Together these two formed a quite impressive business plan and put their signatures on the dotted line. With these signatures and the impressive business plan in hand, Sean O’Connell became the newest oil tycoon of New York with hopes to revive the oil industry with the same fuel that once helped the IRA gain an advantage on the battlefields in Northern Ireland.
