Organization Backstory (Min. of 150+ Words): The air was dense with fog, the rain pouring from the heavens above. It was September 19th, 1940, in Marseille, France, and Jules Venturi sliced his hand with a sharp blade that his grandfather gave him. He passed the silver dagger to the other men in the group, with them doing the same as Venturi. One by one they passed the blade, slicing their hands and covering their palms with their dark red blood. They swore an oath to each other, to their Catholicism and their brothers, to devote their lives to their newfound family, through each other’s blood. Each of them held hands, whispering their prayers to God. Surrounding them were pictures of saints, crosses, and photos of their biological families.
When it was finished, they smeared the blood onto the photos of their families and burned the photos. It was a new life for them, one that was filled with secrecy and devotion. It was their calling, knowing that God would never forgive them, but still dedicating their lives to him.
It was then that the Le Milieu Venturi, or the Venturi Underworld, was born.
Their sole purpose was to do whatever it took to have the French Resistance succeed. They didn’t know if they were going to live or die, so they focused on recruitment for the sole reason of killing the Nazi’s. Jules recruited 100 men and women in La Résistance, and the people he recruited ended up creating a small army of 800 soldiers. Together, with the Francs-Tireurs et Partisans (FTP; France’s pro-communist resistance), took over the urban city environment. After weeks of fighting and the German’s being flanked by the French Army, they were successful. Only a couple months later, World War 2 ended.
With a freed France and nowhere to go, many of the men and women stayed with Jules. Most of the lower command’s family was dead, and many felt as if Jules was their only family. Instead of parting ways, they stuck together. They were poor with no reparations from France for their service in the resistance. Instead, they turned to crime.
At first, it was petty thievery. Robbing houses, holding people at gunpoint to loot their goods, and smuggling drugs for the bigger crime families in Italy. But, over the years, they became bigger. They manufactured their own drugs, created their own system of transportation, and became a known name in the underworld. At times, they even resorted to human trafficking. They became known for their smuggling of drugs, weapons, and humans. They weren’t bad at killing either.
In 1956, Jules and his wife had a daughter. Her name was Charlotte Venturi, one of three children that Jules had legitimately. Charlotte was ambitious, passionate, and most importantly, smart. She was almost too ambitious for her own good, with her father trying to push her away from the family business. The more he pushed, the more she became curious. Over time, her father saw her potential. He gave her the proper training to become a proper boss of the Venturi family. She went overseas for college to America, and while she was there, she saw all of the potential that her family could have in the big city of New York.
When she came back, she would tell her father all of the beautiful and ambitious things in New York City. She made many connections there, both French and American, and knew that her family could thrive there. After she finished her degree in college, her father accepted her proposal. It wouldn’t just be a branch of the Venturi Crime Family, but rather its own American family. She would carry on the legacy of Le Milieu Venturi, doing whatever it took to make her father proud and make her family’s name known in New York.
She, along with several members of the french Le Milieu Venturi, took a plane to America and set up in the middle of the New York Mobsters. Many laugh because of their French background, but Charlotte is willing to prove that her family has what it takes to play along, or against, everybody else.
