Organization Backstory (Min. of 250+ Words & any images): Bruno Bernat started out as an unassuming small-town butcher in the Polish countryside in 1914 he would work for hours a day to provide for his family, sometimes even working multiple jobs. At the age of 25 he had two children Erwin Bernat or Joseph Bernat. These two children would go on to open the first Bernats deli one of the best polish delis in there home town by the 1960’s after WWII they had decided to immigrate to the United states of America they would open their first deli a small shop in the street of downtown Brooklyn New York when Erwin met the love of his life Audrey they later married and had a child under the name of Michal Bernat. Unfortunately shortly before the birth of Michal the brother Joseph Bernat had died of stage four cancer.
Twenty years later, in the storage units, Erwin’s son, grandson, and great-grandson continue the family tradition of quality, freshness, and integrity, preparing fine Polish meat products from those hearty, time-tested recipes. Serving hundreds of customers a day the family maintains the same traditions as their great grandfather had many years before them. Now currently being run by Michal, Gregory, and Edward. The three run the best polish deli to ever be placed on the streets of NYC. From such popularity many local’s from the community began bringing boxes of fresh meats to the deli each day to serve the best quality food possible.
Bernat’s serves up the best Polish dishes you will ever taste, From kielbasa ,pierogi, golumpki, and of course the best sandwiches in the downtown area! We have been around for over a hundred years and have perfected are recipes to make you say Jedzmy! Stop by and enjoy and remember you feel like family because we treat you like family.
