Organization Backstory (Min. of 250+ Words & any images):
The Slonovskaya organized crime group (“Elephants”) is the largest organized criminal group in the Ryazan region and one of the most powerful criminal groups in the USSR in the 1980s.
Organized crime groups began to appear in Russia during the socio-economic reforms of the late 1980s. The reforms of this period led to the impoverishment of one part of the population and, conversely, to the enrichment of the other, that is, to an increase in social inequality. These processes did not bypass Ryazan either.
The Slonovskaya organized criminal group appeared in Ryazan in 1981. Its original name was "Prezentovskaya" organized criminal group (at the place of the headquarters meeting in the Ryazan restaurant "Present"). Its leaders were the former driver of the deputy Ryazan city prosecutor Nikolai Ivanovich Maksimov, nicknamed Max, and the taxi driver Vyacheslav Evgenievich Yermolov, born in 1952, nicknamed the Elephant. In honor of the latter, the group subsequently received its final name. Initially, the group of Elephant and Max took up the game of "thimbles", which was then at the zenith of popularity. Having gained experience in extortion, the new organized crime group began to deal with more serious cases. When the so-called period of the “car boom” began in Russia, the bandits began to scam buyers and sellers of cars, as a result of which they were left without money and without cars. However, the group was soon arrested. Maksimov took the blame for the fraud on himself and was sentenced on probation, and the court did not find corpus delicti in Yermolov's actions.
After the incident, the Elephant and his associates were forced to immigrate to the United States under false passports, and start their criminal activities there. In this they were helped by old connections with Ukrainian colleagues, who began to sell old Soviet weapons. They transported loads of weapons to the Elephant and his gang for later use in establishing authority in American circles. In addition, the group began to sell weapons.
The Elephant group is currently engaged in racketeering, drugs and car trafficking.
